MEDITERRANEAN FOOD
Was Built for Vegans.

Chickpeas, olive oil, tahini, herbs, fresh vegetables - Mediterranean cooking has been plant-based for centuries. At Mazal, 11 dishes are naturally vegan, and 10 of those are gluten-free too.

That tradition shows up on our line every morning, not just on the menu description. Chickpeas are ground fresh daily in a grinder used only for hummus and falafel, never for meat. Cauliflower is roasted whole, not pre-cut into florets. None of it started as a health trend. It is just how Mediterranean food has always been made, and it happens to line up with how vegan and gluten-free guests eat.

BOWL OR PITA?
It Changes Everything.

Falafel, roasted cauliflower, sabich, and the farm fresh omelet all come two ways at Mazal: in a pita, or in a bowl. The photo can look almost identical. The diet classification does not.

Pita Format

The same fillings, warm pita wrapped around them. Pita is not a vegan or gluten-free product, so pita orders across the menu are vegetarian only, not vegan.

Bowl Format

Falafel and roasted cauliflower come bread-free in a bowl, with tahini, lemon sauce, salad, and white cabbage. No pita means no wheat - both are vegan and gluten-free.

Sabich and the farm fresh omelet are vegetarian only in either format, since both contain egg - format does not change that. Falafel Salad is the one dish that breaks the bowl-versus-pita pattern entirely: it is vegan in its only format, but not gluten-free, because it is topped with crispy pita chips rather than served alongside a pita. Ask for the bowl by name when you order, online or at the counter, and the kitchen will build it correctly.

WHOLE-ROASTED Cauliflower.

A full head of cauliflower, roasted until the edges char and the inside turns tender. Finished with lemon, garlic, and parsley. No pre-cut florets, no shortcuts.

It is our most-ordered vegan dish, and the reason people drive across the bridge for plant-based night out.

It depends on the format. Falafel as a bowl is vegan and gluten-free - crispy falafel, tahini, lemon sauce, fresh salad, and white cabbage, no bread. Falafel as a pita is vegetarian only, not vegan and not gluten-free, because our pita is not a vegan or gluten-free product. If you eat vegan, order the bowl.

Yes. Our hummus is 100% plant-based: chickpeas, tahini, lemon, olive oil, garlic. No dairy, no eggs, no animal products. We grind chickpeas in a traditional meat grinder every morning - dedicated to hummus production, not meat. Made fresh and served the Mediterranean way.

Yes - 10 of our 11 vegan dishes are also gluten-free. Pita contains wheat, so we offer bowls (bread-free) of every pita item. Hummus bar items can be ordered without pita for a GF meal. Yes - the falafel mixture is made fresh every morning from ground chickpeas, fresh herbs, garlic, and spices. Our machine forms and fries the balls. It is vegan and gluten-free in bowl format.

The whole-roasted Baked Cauliflower. A full head of cauliflower, roasted until charred on the edges and tender inside, finished with lemon, garlic, and parsley sauce. It is the dish that vegan and non-vegan guests order most.

Yes. Tahini and amba contain sesame, which is a top-9 US allergen. Most vegan dishes include tahini. Please ask us about specific dietary needs. Cross-contamination is possible in a shared kitchen.

No. Mazal is a Mediterranean street food restaurant, not a dedicated vegan restaurant - our menu also includes turkey and lamb shawarma, kebab, and schnitzel. What we do have is 11 dishes that are naturally vegan, most of them gluten-free too, built from Mediterranean staples like chickpeas, tahini, and fresh vegetables. If you eat vegan, you will eat well here, but the kitchen also cooks meat.

Yes. Order online at mazaleat.com/pages/order for delivery. For pickup, call (843) 425-8551. Calling for pickup gets the best price with no third-party fees.
