Mediterranean Falafel Bowl
Scratch-made falafel over fresh salad with tahini, lemon sauce, and white cabbage. A complete Mediterranean bowl - naturally plant-based and gluten-free.
Made Fresh.
Every Morning.
Mediterranean food is built on olive oil, legumes, whole grains, fresh herbs, and lean protein - the same pattern U.S. News ranks the #1 diet in America. Mazal brings that pattern to Charleston as street food: scratch-made falafel, house-made hummus ground fresh every morning, slow-roasted shawarma, and Mediterranean bowls. The recipes trace back to a family kitchen in Israel, but what ends up on your plate is the cleanest, freshest Mediterranean lunch in the Lowcountry.
Mazal Mediterranean Street Food at 1901 Ashley River Rd in West Ashley, Charleston SC makes falafel from a handmade chickpea-herb mixture prepared fresh every morning. Dried chickpeas are soaked overnight and combined with fresh herbs, garlic, cumin, and coriander - no canned mix, no filler.
The mixture is shaped and fried to order throughout the day so each falafel arrives hot and crispy outside, dense and herb-green inside.
A Falafel Plate ($10) is five falafel balls with tahini on the side. The Mazal Signature hummus plate ($15) tops house-ground hummus with falafel, tahini, fresh salad, and pickles, served with olive oil and cumin. Every falafel dish is 100 percent vegan and naturally gluten-free. Mazal is open Sunday through Friday 11am to 8pm at 1901 Ashley River Rd, Charleston SC 29407. Call (843) 425-8551.
Looking for more vegan Mediterranean food in Charleston? The Mediterranean Falafel Bowl is fully plant-based - falafel, tahini, lemon sauce, fresh salad, and white cabbage. No dairy, no eggs, no shortcuts.
Falafel itself is naturally gluten-free - chickpeas, fresh herbs, and spices, no flour. Order as the Mediterranean Falafel Bowl or Falafel Plate to keep it GF. Our shawarma and chicken bowls are also gluten-free when you skip the pita.
Bowl. Pita.
Your Call.
Three things separate Mazal's falafel from everywhere else in Charleston, West Ashley, Mount Pleasant, and the Lowcountry - and the Google reviews keep repeating them.
The batter is ground every morning from dried chickpeas, fresh herbs, and Mediterranean spices. Most Charleston restaurants use a frozen pre-made mix - break one open and it's brown. Break ours open and it's bright green.
"Everything was fresh, and you could tell the hummus was homemade." - Melissa C., Google
The recipe came with the family from Israel - the Mediterranean side that takes falafel seriously. No chain, no franchise, no "Mediterranean-inspired." Just the real thing, cooked by the family behind Mazal, who grew up on it.
"Run, don't walk, for a perfect Mediterranean experience. The drive is totally worth it." - Dalit M., Google
No holding trays, no warming bins. When you order, your falafel goes into the fryer. That's why it arrives crackling and steaming instead of limp from a heat lamp.
"Authentic, delicious food. Great value. Recommended!" - Tiffany J., Google
